===Bidding parties===
IECO has announced the call for applications for the competition, which will be accepted from 2 to 3 May 2022. On the evening of May 3, after considering the applications, the referent group published four official candidates for the right to accept the competition:

Bidding took place using two rounds of voting. After the first round, the bid from the United States left the bidding race. In the second round of voting, Spain's bid won the majority of the votes, which eliminated the need for a third round of voting.

===Canceled or rejected bids===
Below is a list of applications that were withdrawn during the review by the reference group:

The following countries have reported their reluctance to host the Summer '22 contest: [[France]], [[Germany]], [[New Zealand]], [[Portugal]] and [[Thailand]].
