[[Japan]] participated in the [[Worldvision Q1-2023|Worldvision Song Contest]] Q1-2023 in Manchester, the [[United Kingdom]] with the song "Parts" performed by Natumi. The Japanese broadcaster [[:en:NHK|NHK]] organised the national final for Q1-2023 contest in order to select the Japanese entry for the Q1-2023 contest. Four entries competed in the national final, and the winner was announced on 5 January 2023 following the jury vote.

Open Nippon Q1-2023 was held in the format of one final with the participation of four invited compositions released no earlier than 1 October 2021.

The voting system in the preselection has changed: so any interested participant in the upcoming competition (24 voters with the right to vote, including the representative from Japan) had the right to vote. Each voter had to give 1 point to the most liked composition and at the same time take 1 point from the most disliked composition. At the start of the voting, each composition had 10 points on the balance sheet. As a result, 15 voting participants used the right to vote.
