Portugal has started it's debut at Q4-2022 quite successfully with becoming a runner-up and leaving only United Kingdom ahead. Two seasons later, at Q2-2023 they have achieved another great result by finishing third.

However, their best result has been achieved in Q1-2024 by Neoni, who has won the competition with the song Darkside which brought the country's first victory and the right to host the next edition. Also, this was the first participation when Portugal has competed in the Semi-Finals. The next contest Q2-2024 has been held in Guimarães, Portugal.

Portugal is also notable for their active IECO activity. The country curator Denis Vorobyov is also a supervisor and a founder of Special Melody contest, one of the IECO constant projects.
