Bidding parties

IECO has announced the call for applications for the competition, which will be accepted from 2 to 3 May 2022. On the evening of May 3, after considering the applications, the referent group published four official candidates for the right to accept the competition:

Canceled or rejected bids

Below is a list of applications that were withdrawn during the review by the reference group:

  •   Belarus, Minsk; Minsk Arena (Capacity: 15.000 spectators).
  •   China, Shanghai; Mercedes-Benz Arena (Capacity: 18.000 spectators) - expressed a desire to accept the competition, but ultimately did not submit an application for holding.
  •   Denmark, Copenhagen; Parken Stadium (Capacity: 38.000 spectators).
  •   Greece, Piraeus; The Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium (Capacity: 32.100 spectators).
  •   Hungary, Budapest; Lazlo Papp Arena (Capacity: 12.500 spectators).
  •   Japan, Okinawa; Okinawa City Multi-Purpose Arena (Capacity: 10.000 spectators).
  •   Japan, Tokyo; Ariake Arena (Capacity: 12.000 spectators) - withdrew its candidacy at the last moment in favor of Korea's bid.
  •   North Macedonia, Skopje; Toshe Proeski National Arena (Capacity: 33.000 spectators).
  •   South Korea, Busan; Sajik Arena (Capacity: 14.100 spectators).
  •   South Korea, Seoul; Olympic Gymnastics Arena (Capacity: 15.000 spectators).
  •   South Korea, Seoul; Seoul Olympic Stadium (Capacity: 69.900 spectators) - the application was not included in the official list of applicants for the competition due to the lack of suitable conditions for the competition.
  •   United States, Syracuse; Carrier Dome (Capacity: 56.200 spectators).
  •   United States, Ann Arbor; Michigan Stadium (Capacity: 107.600 spectators) - the application was not included in the official list of applicants for the competition due to the lack of suitable conditions for the competition.

The following countries have reported their reluctance to host the Summer '22 contest: France, Germany, New Zealand, Portugal and Thailand.
