The Japanese broadcaster [[:en:NHK|NHK]] organised the national final for Q1-2023 contest in order to select the Japanese entry for the Q1-2023 contest. Four entries competed in the national final, and the winner was announced on 5 January 2023 following the jury vote.

-The voting system in the preselection has changed: so any interested participant in the upcoming competition (24 voters with the right to vote, including the representative from Japan) had the right to vote. Each voter had to give 1 point to the most liked composition and at the same time take 1 point from the most disliked composition.
