Portugal has participated in the Worldvision Song Contest 8 times since making its debut in the very first edition - Q4-2022. The contest is broadcast in Portugal by RTP.
Portugal has started it's debut at Q4-2022 quite successfully with becoming a runner-up and leaving only United Kingdom ahead.
From the season Q1-2023, Portugal also occasionally organizes its own national selcetion: Portugal: Selects Song to HOST CITY, where the name of the selection changes based on the contest hosting city. During the next edition, at Q2-2023 they have achieved another great result by finishing third.
However, their best result has been achieved in Q1-2024 by Neoni, who has won the competition with the song Darkside which brought the country's first victory and the right to host the next edition. Also, this was the first participation when Portugal has competed in the Semi-Finals. The next contest Q2-2024 has been held in Guimarães, Portugal.
Portugal is also notable for their IECO activity. The country curator Denis Vorobyov is also a supervisor and a founder of Special Melody contest, one of the IECO constant projects. Portugal also actively participates in other competitions of IECO as well.
